There is no magic secret to becoming a great soccer player. Soccer is a sport that requires a wide variety of skills. Here is a list of tips that I have compiled that will help you become the best soccer player possible.
1. Work on aerobic conditioning - Just attending soccer practices will not allow you reach your peak fitness level. Two to three times a week you should run for at least 2 miles. This will vastly improve your endurance, which is a key attribute for soccer players to have. By improving your conditioning you will be able to remain fast and alert even in the later parts of the game. You can also use hills as a training tool. This will help develop bursts of speed and improve overall leg strength.
2. Equally develop both feet - Any drill you do that emphasizes one foot should also be repeated for the other foot. A soccer player who can only use one leg effectively is only reaching half of their potential. If you already favor one foot, make sure to practice with the other. One important quality of professional players is that most of them are able to use both feet equally well.

Soccer Skills - The Psychology
The key to being good at soccer is to work hard on all of the fundamentals. As soccer demands a range of mental skills, this includes training the mind as well as the body. Although soccer skills can seem to be instinctive, soccer psychology techniques can really help you to develop your skills much more quickly than only doing physical practice. As your body already knows how to kick a ball (if it does not it will learn very quickly through practice), mental training helps you to let your body do what it knows how to do.
Visualization or mental rehearsal is where you imagine yourself doing a soccer skill before you actually physically do it with your body. By creating a mental image or intention of what you want to happen or feel, you can improve your experience and confidence in your ability to perform these skills under pressure and in a variety of possible situations.
But first you must practice a specific soccer move with your body so that you know what it feels like. When you know what it feels like to do a specific skill, you can begin to train your awareness and train the muscle memory in your body through visualization and imagination.
Try it out. Take the time to sit and rehearse in your mind taking a penalty. Imagine what it feels like to do all of the following: See yourself place the ball on the penalty spot, walk back a few yards, decide which part of the goal you will aim for, run towards the ball, and strike it to the left or the right of the goalkeeper. See the ball go past the keeper and into the net. It's a goal!
Now ask a friend to play goalkeeper for you and take some penalties for real. Over time, what you will find is that this kind of combination of mental and physical training will help you to develop the right technique and mental toughness to succeed at taking a penalty under pressure with many people watching you.

In part one of football tackling we asked if there was a new science to tackling and as taught by Chuck Clemens from the University of Central Missouri we determined there is.
Nothing says good hit like hearing the pads popping and nothing feels better to a tackler than driving a ball carrier to the ground.
Those kinds of tackles happen by design and begin with the basics. This article will focus on proper tackling drills, training football players tackling techniques that are safe and work.
Starting with angle, regardless of how fast the ball carrier is, if you have the right angle of pursuit, you can hone in on the runner like radar and make a bone jarring tackle. The kind of tackle the opponent remembers and will make him want to stay out of your area.
Regardless if you are tackling at an angle or from the front, as you approach the ball carrier, lower your body, knees bent and have your arms spread wide to wrap around the ball carrier. As you prepare to explode into the tackle, keep your head up, eyes on the runner and throw your arms forward, thrusting your arms with force will add to your forward momentum.
Make sure your head is on one side of the runner, or the other, never hit an opponent with your head. It can lead to serious injury or death. As you explode into the ball carrier, lead with the outside shoulder and wrap your arms around the ball carrier. Keep your feet moving so you can drive through the guy so you can drive him out of bounds or into the turf. You want to hit the runner around the waist or legs.
Great tackling starts with practicing the fundamentals. When practicing these tackling drills, use a tackling dummy or a teammate, always start at half speed and focus on tackling techniques, balance, feet moving and driving up and through the ball carrier and always have the head on one side or the other of the runner.

1 Running; try to run about a mile or two every, or every other, day to keep your speed at its peak level and also to increase speed. Time yourself and try to beat your times ever few days. The best time to go running is in the morning before eating, this is when the body is able to build up speed and train more effectively.
2 Weights; either buy a small set of dumbbells, or go to the gym once or twice a week to lift, push and pull some weights to keep the fat burning and the muscles growing. Never lift a weight that is to heavy, you need to comfortably lift the weights about 20 times in each hand. It is always more effective to lift lightly but more times. Be sure to train the legs by going on the leg weights, and lift lightly for 5 minutes then switch to middle weight for 5 minutes before going to the heaviest possible weight you can push or lift with your legs for a few more reps. Go either in the morning or at night, but not after you have just eaten- and remember to drink plenty of water during the exercise.
3 Ball Control; with a freshly pumped up football run around or jog around your garden with it, keeping it within your control, by tapping to one foot and the next in a forward and side to side motion. Be sure to keep doing this until you have complete control, and you can do a few laps of the garden (depending on size) without loosing control at all.
4 Goal shooting; simply set up your goal, either with an actual net or just two markers to line out the goal. Now, with a football simply shoot it into the net by targeting where you want it to go and then trying to shoot it at the exact place. This will train your targeting, control and ability to aim. Try all sorts of scenarios, but be sure not to damage anything behind the goal area.
